After a draw in Sydney, Australia (0-0) another draw in Seoul, South Korea (2-2) a deciding game had to be played between both national teams. To those times no away goals rule existed and therefore a third match took place on neutral ground which was in this case Hong Kong City, Hong Kong. Australia was the lucky winner (1-0, scored by Jimmy Mackay) and received their first World Cup Ticket to Germany '74.
