Stats & Facts:
It was the first and to this day only meeting between the Socceroos and the American Samoa football team, which also became a historic event. With a 31-0 win, the Australian national team set a world record in professional football, a result that had never been seen in a FIFA international match. But it should not have stayed with this one world record, because in addition, the Australian striker Archie Thompson set another world record in professional football with a total of 13 goals. Never before has a single player set a record of 13 goals in just one game.

Stats & Facts:
We can award this jersey to the Australian striker Mark Viduka. Due to the sewn-on Australian crest, this is a model that was worn in the 2001 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Match against American Samoa, but Mark Viduka was not in the squad for this match and there were no back names on the players' jerseys.
There were also auctions during this time where these jerseys were auctioned off without being worn in a match. This jersey comes from the Graham Budd auction house in Wellingborough (England).

"3-1 at the Upton Park" - Unforgettable!
Probably one of the top 10 football victories the Socceroos ever had although this game against England was just a friendly match without any important relevance. But for all aussie supporters, especially based in UK, that day was remarkable after a clear victory over the "3 Lions" of the British Empire. It should have been the only win Australia was able to achieve against England in the 11v11 match up. Totally 8 matches with 1 win, 2 draws and 5 defeats.

Stats & Facts:
For the OFC Nations Cup in 2002, all participating nations were allowed to nominate 20 players for their squad. Australia only nominated 18 players, so numbers 19 and 20 were available for subsequent players. Unfortunately, it is therefore not possible to determine which player can be assigned the number 20.

Stats & Facts:
This jersey could either have been a training jersey for the Australian goalkeepers, or the regular goalkeeper jersey. Unfortunately, there is no further information about another Adidas goalkeeper jersey that was intended for the Australian national team. Therefore, we currently assume that this goalkeeper template was planned as the goalkeeper's player jersey.

Stats & Facts:
Goodbye Adidas!
The new kit of the Socceroos in 2004 was ready to be launched and we believe that this shirt would have become one of the most liked jerseys of Socceroos supporters. A traditional green and gold colour combination with a beautiful number/player name set as well as the Australian flag for the very first time on one sleeve. This kit finally is the end and the beginning of a new Socceroos football history. After a 20 years business partnership between the FFA and Adidas the Australian football association decided to resign with Adidas for a more profitable contract with Nike. Or has the change been done for a total different, historical background…?
The Socceroos have missed all World Cup tournaments when using an Adidas kit. Was the change to Nike based on stats like these followed by superstition?

Stats & Facts:
For the Adidas kit launch in 2004 Tim Cahill has received number 10 which has been usually worn by striker Harry Kewell. For the Socceroos debut of Tim Cahill (substituted against South Africa in 2004) he has worn number 20. One year later in 2005 Cahill finally used to wear number 10 in some games, which has been taken over by Kewell again. He finally received number 4 for his Socceroos jerseys which hasn't changed until his official retirement of the Australian national team.

Stats & Facts:
Aussie goalkeeper Zeljko Kalac, also known as „The Spider“, sometimes did weird things to his jerseys he had to wear for a match while cutting off the long sleeves. We never had the final chance to ask him what's about it but believe that these parts of the jerseys were just too big and gave him a bad feeling during a match. Zeljko was quite a tall guy and therefore the jerseys for him were quite big as well but the long sleeve kits had not the same/correct proportion. That's why we believe he decided to cut the sleeves off to a short sleeve jersey version before leaving the locker room.

Goodbye Oceania Football Confederation!
In 2004 Australia has won the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) tournament which was their fourth OFC trophy (1980, 1996, 2000 & 2004) but also their last one after moving into the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in 2007. It should take another 11 years to win their next trophy, this time the AFC trophy.

Stats & Facts:
Nike already has used an interim design jersey for the Socceroos in 2004 when Australia faced South Africa in a friendly match. (London, UK) One year later Nike again has used an interim shirt for Australia and again versus South Africa which has been only used for this single game. Therefore it is hard to say if this kit has been known as their „home“ or „away“ jersey, but the Football Federation Australia has called this kit as an away jersey.

Michael Beauchamp was kind of a party crasher (don't get us wrong) when he was substituted in 90th min and scored an own goal to equalize the game result. Still a big party afterwards for the four Socceroos legends who retired that day.
